Planning:
  • Sailing location for 2008 - Camp ground

    • Dennis has talked with park management and they have Laser storage available at the campground maintenance area and we would be able to use a portion of the swim beach area to launch the boats. We will look into getting a Laser membership pass into the camp ground.

    • Is there a location within the camp ground area to have the classroom? Like the day lodge.

  • Course program & timeframe?

    • Beginner

      • 1 hour basic sailing lecture

      • 2 hour open water

    • Questions / Notes:

      • Do we have 2 per boat or 1 per boat? Which would be more productive for student?

      • The contact is Mary Varvarosky (VAR-VAR-SKI if I remember correctly) varvarosky.1@osu.edu She ran the Alum Creek youth program in 2007.

        • As of 2007 they had their own course catered to the 12-16 age group.  The "syllabus" is with those books that are floating around.  I believe Greg currently has it.

        • I don't know if their course has changed, but they seemed to be leaning in the direction of picking up a US Sailing sanctioned course if they could get enough people to take the instructor class. I was in the consular class with her, and she seemed interested in becoming a US Sailing instructor. I checked on the Instructor class, and found it to be something I wasn't interested in.  For the same price and commitment as a US Sailing instructor class, you can take a USCG captains class.....(assuming you have your 365 days of time on USCG waters) It seems silly to take the US Sailing stuff.

        • Anyways, the 2 day consular class was enough for a jump start, and I would recommend it to anyone if it is offered again.
