Sport-Jet by Mercury Marine

Here's a responsive, dependable powerhouse specially designed to perform at its best under the extreme demands of jet operation.

Mercury, the preferred name in marine propulsion, started with a proven powerhead and a remarkably high power to weight. Ratio then engineered in a host of refinements like special oversized crankshaft and bearings a fully-integrated exhaust chamber that's designed in for optimum pulse-tuning, not bolted on as an after thought. New intake chamber geometry delivers both extra power r and quieter operation.

The brarid1new, XR jet pump provides quicker acceleration and better low-end thrust for improved ski performance. A new intake design allows more water into the pump for improved acceleration and higher top-end speeds, even under heavy load

Add to all that sealed CDM ignition for fast starting, a big 1 5-amp alternator for sure battery charging, and a jet nozzle located above the waterline for shallow-water operation, and you've got the kind of dependable, responsive performance no other hydrojet can match.

Skiing hot-dog acrobatics fast cruising Jazz and the Mercury Sport-Jet can do it all.

Owner Information
  • Yes I do still have the 96 Jazz Bayliner as of December 2008.

  • The boat is located in Dayton, OH.

  • Purchased new in June, 1996 and the only owner.

  • The boat retailed for $10,500 new from the dealer in 1996. The 1997 model (same boat) was $11,500.

  • The boat has never been in salt water, fresh water only.

  • Total length is 18 feet maximum (boat/Trailer).

  • Comes with a space tire for the trailer.

  • The trailer hitch takes a 2" dia ball.

  • Tongue weight is not specified in the manuals and no sticker or plate mount on the trailer from manufacturer.

    •  However I put a bathroom scale under the hitch with a board on to a scale and it says 140 lbs. but doesn't seem 140 lbs. when I lift it by hand.

  • A closer picture of the Heim Station.

  • The boat will hold four (4) person or 600 lbs. which ever comes first (650 lbs. with gear max.).

  • The boat will go about 43 mph with four people and a half tank of gas & about 35 mph pulling a skier (150-200 lbs. skier).
